Hi! I’m working on a psycholinguistic research project. I need participants whose native language is English or Mandarin to do an experiment. Your participation is greatly appreciated.
**What is the experiment?**
The experiment includes a children’s story. The story consists of 27 audio clips. There will be a picture for each audio clip, for which you need to judge if the picture matches the audio clip.
**How long does it take?**
The experiment should take 10 to 15 minutes for native English speakers and about 15 minutes for native Mandarin speakers.
**Who can participate in the experiment?**
The experiment targets two groups of people.
The **native Mandarin speakers** group is for native Mandarin speakers growing up and mostly living in Mainland China or Taiwan. Participants may also be native in other variants of Chinese like Cantonese and Hokkien, but **not native** in non-Chinese languages like English and French.
The second group is for **native English speakers**, including English-Mandarin bilinguals.
If you are not valid for the experiment, but nonetheless interested in the experiment, feel free to PM me for the alternative link.
**Which devices are allowed?**
The experiment can only be accessed through computers and tablets. Mobile phones are blocked from accessing, because the pictures will be too small on mobile phones.
**How is the data collected?**
The experiment is part of the dissertation of my MA Linguistics degree. Raw data can be accessed by the research associate in my university’s linguistics lab and my dissertation supervisor. Participants’ user agents, randomised participant IDs and every clicking event will be recorded. The raw data I receive from the platform will look like [these](https://support.gorilla.sc/support/publishing-and-open-science/data-analysis#understandingyourdata). Raw data doesn’t contain any personal information and it will never be released publicly, but I will archive it for possible future research. The result will be reported collectively, like ‘native English speakers on avenger achieved a higher accuracy in…’, rather than a case-by-case study.

This post is not so relevant to Mandarin learning, so I have consulted the mods of this subReddit before posting.
Interesting – I can think of a few places that this would differ between the two languages, would be interesting to see your findings!
I submitted mine 🙂
I got a huge amount of responses when I shared my MA study on here, so I’m happy to help
Am I eligible for the native english speaker test, if I’m not a native speaker but C1 level?
Would I still qualify as a native Chinese speaker if I speak English almost at a native level as well? I have studied in the U.S. for about 8 years now but I was born and raised in Mainland China.
